Party
Today we had a small gathering of family and friends at my parent's house to celebrate 3 things: our move to NYC, my parents anniversary and Luca's 1st birthday. His little cake - dairy and soy free - required visits to 3 different stores for all the ingredients and was lovingly made by mom. The chocolate cake inside was delicious and he seemed to like the icing (made from goat's milk butter). At first he was enjoying just the icing and then when he realized he could get into the cake and how smushy it was, he began to pound and dig until it was a big colorful pile of mush!
Our friends, Ben and Sherry, drove all the way from Jacksonville to have a visit with us before we move. We were thrilled to finally meet their adorable little one, Noah. He is 16 months and really skilled - an expert walker now since he has been off on his own feet since 9 months! Luca had fun playing with Noah and sharing his new toys.
Luca's new thing is pushing around toy cars and trains and making a "vroom vroomm" noise like a motor. He also loves to pick up toy phones or cell phones and say "Elllllooooo?!!!" He actually does this with remote controls, spoons, pieces of food, etc - its so cute!
This week the movers are coming to pack up the house. We will be moving up to New York shortly after, with our intent being to arrive just before our things arrive in the big truck. We are ready to finally get up there - tired of packing, talking about the move and hypothesizing about what it will be like once we get there. Let's just get there already!

Sasha's 1st Birthday
Today we went to Melina's house for Sasha's 1st birthday.
Melina made Sasha a beautiful cake. It was about 8" round, white with pink trim, decorated with a little safari of animals. Sasha spent a good 5 minutes rearranging the animals before she decided to taste the cake. It was too cute! She delicately touched the cake with one finger, cautiously tasted her first bite and delicately licked her finger. I can't imagine Luca being as calm or as patient. I was imagining our own 1st birthday just a couple weeks away - I am sure Luca will stick his face in immediately and push the cake on the floor when he is through!
